Marion General's Emergency Department rivals many large metropolitan-area facilities in scope and capabilities. More than 47,000 patients a year visit our Emergency Department which includes 23 private treatment rooms, an expanded waiting area with children's play area, and a dedicated treatment area for handling less severe illnesses and injuries.

Our ability to provide emergent angioplasty services means precious time—life-saving time—is saved for our patients because they don't need to be transported elsewhere for treatment. When necessary, patients can be moved to our on-site cardiac cath facility on a moment's notice. Our state-of-the-art lab addition, which opened in 2001, includes two cardiac cath labs and a special procedures room where related cardiac services such as electrophysiology studies are performed.

Marion General Hospital has also been designated an Accredited Chest Pain Center by The Society of Chest Pain Centers, only the 328th to earn this elite accreditation out of the thousands of hospital emergency departments nationwide. The primary goal of a Chest Pain Center is to significantly reduce the time it takes for a patient experiencing symptoms of a possible heart attack to see a physician, thus reducing the time to treatment during the critical early stages, when treatments are most effective.
