Introduction to Marion General Hospital
For more than 90 years, Marion General Hospital's associates, volunteers and physicians have provided patient-focused care in the community. Marion General physicians are known for the exceptional care they provide at this community hospital, which has grown into a regional referral center, offering services and care traditionally found in much larger hospitals. Four generations have come to know Marion General as the largest and most sophisticated hospital in the seven-county service area, providing services that include advanced heart care, a Level II Special Care Nursery; and spine and joint revision surgery. Marion General Hospital is a member of OhioHealth, a nationally recognized, not-for-profit, charitable, healthcare organization based in Columbus, Ohio. Marion General’s cardiac catheterization laboratory and infusion clinic are two-time recipients of the Press Ganey Summit Award. Marion General also has been recognized twice with the OhioHealth President’s Award and is a two-time recipient of the Thomson (Solucient) Top 100 Hospitals Performance Improvement Leader Award. Marion General has an advanced heart services program, providing open-heart surgery, angioplasty and electrophysiology. Marion area patients no longer must travel to Columbus for such care. Marion General is an Accredited Chest Pain Center by The Society of Chest Pain Centers, a national patient-centered society with a focus on heart disease and a mission to educate the public and healthcare professionals on the importance of rapid diagnosis and treatment for those experiencing chest pain. Marion General offers the finest heart care available in North Central Ohio, with outstanding clinicians and facilities, and excellent post-operative care. Through a partnership with Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Marion General also provides swift stroke diagnosis, care and treatment through the Stroke Network. A Legacy of Care
At Marion General Hospital, healthcare technology has evolved enormously since they first began taking care of patients as Marion City Hospital at 242 Blaine Avenue. Today’s hospital at 1000 McKinley Park Drive, is the third location. After outgrowing the Blaine Avenue location, the former Waddell Ladies Home at 685 Delaware Avenue was converted to a larger, more modern facility. The medical needs of the Marion community continued to grow and, in 1954, the current facility was built and officially dedicated. On January 17, 1955, the first patient was transferred from Marion City Hospital to Marion General Hospital. Given the hospital’s strong ongoing service to its seven-county area, the Marion community can rest assured that Marion General Hospital will continue to grow and stay on the cutting edge of medical care as needs and innovation develop. |
